Haunt Progress

We're getting close to set-up completion :)  Last night we added mini spotlights to the tombstones and monuments.  I'm really happy with how they are highlighting details that have been otherwise lost in the blue flood lights until now.

More building and set up today!

Keep it Haunty my friends!!!

These are the mini spot lights that we are using :)  They're tiny, but very effective!

Playing with Make-up

I've been inspired by a really amazing skull make up tutorial on YouTube.  I usually just do pale powder and use black and grey eyeshadow to do my makeup for Halloween, but I'm considering branching out and using face paint.

Here's my first attempt.  Sans, all of the right tools... I really need some appropriate brushes.. I just used some cheapie paint brushes for this first go lol

Needs some adjustments/better shading but, it made for a fun Saturday night :)

This is the video that inspired me :)  Simply amazing!!!

2014 Witch's Tea

This past weekend, my mom hosted her 3rd Annual Witch's Tea!

A witch coven greeted everyone from the front yard :) My mom made these from Dollar Store plastic table cloths and Dollar store witch's hats.
A grand entry way!  Beautiful Fall foliage and a witch wreath that my mom also made.  She's a very crafty witch!

This year, Mom was a 'proper English' witch :)  I think she fit the bill!

Here we are together!

And I was Elphaba, from Wicked, along with my very good friend, Glinda! I came up with the t-shirt designs and a friend of mine pressed the shirts for us; didn't she do a great job?  We made our tutu's :)

Of course, we had a lot of tea, which Mom prepared in various lovely tea pots.  Vanilla Chai, Chocolate tea, and Pumpkin Spice were just a few of the flavors that we had.  The Chocolate tea was the crowd favorite this year :)

There were plenty of tasty delicacies to go around including, Cauldron Cookies (I made those), Pumpkin Spice cookies, apple slices with candy dip, caramel apple flavored cupcakes, vanilla chai and pumpkin spice scones...

Stuffed mushroom caps, twice baked potatoes, fresh fruit and veggies, Coronation Chicken Salad, cucumber, pimiento cheese and egg salad sandwiches, deviled eggs and mulled wine!!!!

Many fun-loving witches attended.

Check out the hats that Mom 'enchanted' to float above the kitchen :)

My lovely tarnished, silver tea pot (a thrift store find) made a perfect center piece for the table.

Even a few wee witches... and Elsa... and a vampire! lol

As you can see, we had a lot of fun!  Can't wait till next year!!!!

Do you host your own Witch's Gathering?  I'd love to hear about it!!!
For more witchy gathering fun, check out Justine's Witch's Gathering (she's the one that inspired my Mom's Witch's Tea) over at her blog, Justine's Halloween.

Happy Haunting!!!

AHS Freak Show - Halloween Episode Pt. I

Oh my stars! American Horror Story Freak Show is killing it this season. It's everything that I imagined it would be; beautiful, obscure, mysterious, and horrific. Last night's episode was no exception. Jessica Lange, playing Elsa Mars mistress of a traveling freakshow that has settled in Jupiter, FL, performed Lana Del Ray's 'God's and Monsters'. From Elsa's glamorous attire and seductive performance, to the fantastic scene of Wes Bentley, playing Edward Mordrake, walking through swirling, green fog with lightening dancing behind dark clouds, it was a sensory explosion! I could watch it over and over again.

Immortal Children

"Immortal children were very beautiful. To be near them was to love them, but their development was frozen at the age that they were turned. They couldn’t be taught or restrained. A single tantrum would destroy an entire village." - Carlisle Cullen – Breaking Dawn Part II
My niece was obsessed with a pair of plastic vampire teeth this weekend at my mom's annual Witch's Tea. The Twilight quote kept running though my head as I laughed at my niece's awesomeness :)

Halloween Rolling Pins

Yes, you read that right. They are a thing of beauty and I want them :) Purchase one for me here and I will make you cookies:Halloween Rolling Pins ;) lolol

Snippets

Put a few more things out last night :) Took a few pictures of some of my favorite pieces of the display. Oh, and the cats were begging to go outside, so we also have a picture of my cemetery cat ;)

PumpkinStein

Pumpkins, the iconic symbol of Halloween, have been taken to another level. Meet PumpkinStein! Farmer Tony Dighera designed a plastic mold that the pumpkins grow in, in order to take on the monsterous shape. Check out the article about his journey to creating a monster!

Annabelle Lee

This weekend I completed a very impromptu prop, that I've been refering to as Annabelle Lee. She's just one of the many ghosts that will be in the cemetery this year. Besides a minor adjustment that I want to make, I'm really happy with the way that she came out and I'm really enjoying working with chicken wire and cheese cloth. It's relatively inexpensive and the fact that it's light weight is another plus AND the effect is really great.

What is a Haunter Most Afraid Of?

That's easy... Mother Nature. While she's blessing us with cooler temps and beautifully colored leaves, she's also known for weather mood swings. This weekend, she blasted my little part of the world with intense winds. Granted, it's always windy/breezy in October but I've never experienced wind like we had yesterday in the 6 years that we've done the haunt. Yesterday, I was having a full blown panic attack, because we had just set up our huge entrance way the day before.
Even though each pillar is anchored in the ground with two metal bars, it was leaning at an extremely precarious angle, over our ditch. .

Finally, they tumbled down. There was nothing that I could do about it, since I was home alone and the darn things are too heavy and too awkwardly placed for me to do anything about it by myself.
Thankfully, neither pillar hit the cement or the mail box and had very minimal damage.
I'm hoping that's the worst of the weather for this month. I'd surely be disappointed if Halloween was rained out again like last year! Please be kind to us Mother Nature! =)

Countdown Shenanigans

The Countdown Stone shenanigans have begun. All that I can say is that retaliation will be sweet. I have a few ideas for catch back, but if any of my Halloween friends have ideas for non-violent retaliation, they'd be welcomed >=)

Happy Pumpkin King Grin

The beautiful Fall weather this weekend had me as gitty and energetic as a five year old child. Nothing tops off a Fall weather event like a grinning Pumpkin King =) *Siiiiiggggghhhhh*
